Communication and Interaction
Children with Speech, language and communication (SLCN) needs can have difficulty communicating with others. This can be for a variety of reasons; they may have difficulty saying what they want to; making themselves understood by others or understanding the social and pragmatic use of language. At Hugh Gaitskell we have a Speech and Language Therapist from the external company Chatter-bugs that works with a large proportion of children in school identified with these needs. We also regularly work with NHS Speech and Language Therapists and external specialists depending upon need.
If you are concerned about your child's Speech, Language and Communication please talk to their teacher in the first instance who will then speak to one of the school SENDCo's.
ASC - Autism Spectrum Condition
At HGPS we strive to provide an inclusive environment for children with Autism Spectrum Condition. Some children may already have a diagnosis and some may still be awaiting diagnosis. We aim to support pupils in school and offer parents links to support via the local offer which can be found below. A large proportion of staff that work at HGPS have Autism Education Trusts Level 2 Schools Good Practice Training.
