One world, one school

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

Intent

The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they know more, remember more and understand more. As a result of this, they will become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society who understand how they are developing personally and socially and give them the confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. Within this, we intend to build ‘powerful and strong’ children knowing who they are and where they are in their lives.  This falls in line with our whole school curriculum statement of ‘I am powerful and strong’.  We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about the rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

Implementation

The school curriculum will focus on seven core learning themes: Physical Health and Well Being, Keeping Safe and Managing Risk, Identity, Society and equality, Drug, alcohol and tobacco education, Mental Health and emotional well being, Careers, financial capability and economic well being.  All children including SEND and disadvantaged children have access to key knowledge, language and meanings in order to understand PSHE and to use across the wider curriculum.  All subjects will make a link to PSHE, and the language is used consistently by all staff.  Assemblies, including the whole school, key stage and class assemblies always make a link to PSHE.

Impact

Our children are able to demonstrate and apply the British Values of Democracy, Tolerance, Mutual respect, Rule of law and Liberty.  Pupils demonstrate a healthy outlook towards school. The children will aim to achieve age-related expectations across the wider curriculum and develop positive and healthy relationships with their peers both now and in the future. Pupils understand the physical aspects involved in RSE at an age-appropriate level and have respect for themselves and others.  Our aim is to ensure that children will have positive body images.
